Create Websites that are Accessible to Everybody!
In the old days of the internet, most computers supported only 256 colors. Microsoft’s and Mac’s operating systems also supported 256 colors, but only 216 of them were the same. The rest 40 colors differed on these platforms. So webmasters, who wanted their websites to look the same on both machines, used fixed 216 web safe colors to build their sites.
These days, however, majority of computers support millions of colors. Those old systems, which supported 256 colors only, are almost gone now. So there’s no big reason to be limited to this 216 web safe color palette when building your site, because probably 99% (if not 100%) of your site’s visitors have machines that support millions of colors.
But if you want that your website would be accessible to absolutely everybody, then check out the colors below and build your site using these colors only.
